Mr. Roberto Ong, or better known as “Bob Ong” once quoted, “Only if our youth realized how 20 years of their hard work in studies could prevent their 50 years in future to suffer in poverty, perhaps, or it got to be 100% sure, that they would never wished to avoid school anymore”. Today, there’s a lot of destruction, addiction, vices that stealing the attention of the students from their educations. For them texting is more productive than reading, and updating their status in fb, Instagram, and twitter are more prolific than doing a review and research on their current lessons. They are focusing themselves more in finding how they would get high number of likers than a great average grades, they also set time limits in doing their assignments while consuming an unlimited time to follow the tweets of their favorite celebrities. Some of them, do more focused their responsiveness in looking for a way to cut their classes just to play online games rather than dealing with the new method on how they could find the value of x in their algebra assignment. Only if these youth could comprehend how these activities can affect their future, would their conscience take to continue those unfruitful bustle?
In order for a student to have his elementary diploma, he should spend his six years in studying the general science, basic mathematics, and the other subject that the curriculum offered. After that he is required to devote another six years of his existence (based on the k to 12 curriculum) to bone up the algebra, geometry, trigonometry, general science, biology, chemistry, physics, the novel of el fili and noli, and the other field that the curriculum required. But that’s not the end of all, after he gets his high school (including junior and senior high) diploma, in order to be a professional he should expend another years of his life to take the units of what degree he desires. It would take a lot of time, money, and efforts. But these approximately 20 years of hard work, if not complied will probably result to unemployment or underemployment. Insufficient income for the family due to inadequate salary of the underemployed or blue-collar job employee.
To earn a degree is to get a ticket, to have those precious knowledge is the passport and to have a great wisdom that education could offer is the voucher, to not only an abundant but a prodigious future. Education is not worsening of time, but planting seeds that you can harvest in the near moments, its not a wasting of efforts but depositing some golden coins that you can withdraw in future.
