BRIEF BACKGROUND:
4-H Club work began on the early 1900’s on the United States. It grew out of the need for boys and girls – to learn how to grew better crops and livestock
-became skill full in food preservation
The 4-H club idea gained strength in 1914 with the passage of the Smith Lewes Low. This low provided directions for cooperative extension work on agriculture and home economics on each state of the US.
The 4-H Club in the Philippines began in 1934 until 1987 the YLBP adopted Volunteer Youth Leadership Association ask it new name ( with Efren Oliva as president)
4-H : Its meaning.
4-H MEANS DEVELOPING;
HEAD – to think , plan , reason ,to be innovative and creative.
HEART – to be caring, sharing, committed and civic conscious
HANDS – to be useful , skillful and serviceable
HEALTH – to enjoy life and participate actively on nation- building
THE 4-H CLUB : WHAT IT IS?
The 4-H club is an organization of rural youth primarily the out – of – school youth (OSY) involved on education programs and income generating projects for the four – fold development of the HEAD, HEART , HANDS AND HEALTH.
4-H Club is for rural youth from 15- 30 years old . The membership is open and voluntary. It emphasizes community – based projects on agriculture and homemaking . And it’s an avenue for form family development.
HOW TO ORGANIZE A 4-H CLUB?
A successfully – organized 4-H Club depends on a good start . Parents and the community need to be well- informed of 4-H club work. Interest of the people should be stimulated for better understanding , cooperation and support in organizing a club. Community organizing process is recommended to ensure community participation and sustained interest on the club work.
THE 4-H CLUB : WHAT IT AIMS TO DO ?
- Provides the youth opportunities “ to learn by doing” through individual , group and community projects;
- Enhances productivity and self-reliance through gainful projects.
- Instills on the youth , the spirit of voluntarism, cooperation and dignity of labor;
- Enables the youth to use their time , talents and energies wisely;
- Develops youth’s potentials and
- Promotes fellowship, understanding and good-will.
The goal of 4-H Club is to develop citizenship, leadership , responsibility and life skills of youth through experimental learning programs and and a positive youth development approach . 4-H preparing young people to make a positive impact on their communities of the world.
