A person could say that teaching is a noble profession because it’s conscious. Systematic process molds the youth into better and responsible individual. But what really makes the said profession a noble one?
Aristotle rightly said, “Those who educate the children are more to be honored than they who produce them; for these only gave them life, those the art of living well.” So teaching is a profession that provides an art of living. It is not only a duty but a moral duty. It is not a profession but a noble service to the world to create a more beautiful and peaceful world.
Responsible teachers make teaching a noble profession. I want to give emphasis on the word “responsible” because being a good teacher is not enough. Good teaching revolves around on-time accomplishments of grades and other pedagogic requirements, preparation of daily lesson plans and constant communication with the parents or guardians of students. On the other hand, responsible teaching goes beyond the limits of good teaching. Responsible teaching touches the individual in the student, making him or her responsible citizen, a better brother or sister.
Nelson (2013) stated that there can be no life achievement greater than to have affected the lives of humans in a profound and irreversible way. In any other context this statement might be trite, but for some case it is irrefutably true: teachers have changed the world for the better. And cliché as it is, they know they have to give up some life’s essentials to bury seeds of hope in the consciousness of their students. They know they have to spend time, effort and even money to push the goal of change. They know this very well, and this is what makes teaching a noble profession.
