“The strength of our student relationships makes the difference in translating our passion for teaching into their passion for learning.” Inside the four corners of the classroom, a leader is being molded. A positive relationship between a teacher and a student is very much needed in order to have holistic teaching and learning experience, this will contribute to students’ motivation and cooperation during the learning process. Many qualities define a positive relationship and pave the way for how to create powerful student-teacher relationships. Here are some qualities that should be present:

Good communication – it should have the main element, the speaker and the listener. A teacher and his student should communicate openly to create a smooth and stable environment inside the classroom. It removes the barrier brought by authority inside the class. It also develops the art of questioning of a teacher and encourages students to respond to questions raised by the teacher.

Safe learning environment – The learning environment should be conducive in such a way that it promotes a positive vibe in the classroom setting. It should be motivating, engaging, and gender-sensitive to each one of the students so they will feel at ease while acquiring new ideas and knowledge.

Mutual respect – it is known that respect begets respect, in the teaching and learning process respect goes beyond its literal meaning. Respect means interacting with understanding towards each other. Sometimes, students do not comprehend the way we think they should, when that time comes a teacher must guide the students for them to find out the correct answer. The teacher should   praise each student for them to participate well in class. Lastly;

Student equality– teacher should be the one to set students’ behavior in such a way they feel needed and loved inside the class. Each student should have the assurance that their existence matter.

A teacher who fosters positive relationships with their student create classroom environments more conducive to learning and meet students’ developmental, emotional, and academic needs.
