“Momo” Challenge- a “suicide killer game” that invites people to self-inflict and eventually commits suicide. You have been hearing this in the media. A terrible doll-like image asks users to partake in a dangerous challenges like watching horror movies at 12 midnight or hurting oneself using a knife. Reports have been shown on TV and in the internet how this creepy thing penetrated even to children’s videos being hacked, and distressing the kids.
I’ve got a chance to talk to my students who actually downloaded the app and out of curiosity took the first few challenges. They just wanted to know if it really works but eventually found it horrifying.
I really feel saddened of the reality that they are doing these things without the knowledge of their parents or guardians. Technology is not totally bad itself when utilized in a meaningful way. Parents provide gadgets to their children with the intention to help them in their studies. Yet, technology does more harm than good to some who misuse it. We all want to give the best for our kids, but somehow we are blinded by the impending danger of these things. They might be destroying the future of our loved ones.
Thus, parents should take time to evaluate. Are we doing our responsibility as a steward of these precious spirits-our children, who are entrusted to our care? As they say, family is spelled T.I.M.E. Do we really take time to talk to our children or we just give them the tools that would replace our parenting? Our children need constant reminder. Even if they are old enough to decide for themselves, still our children need guidance in their decisions. It is our call to raise our children in the right path. A call that applies to everyone regardless of individual circumstances.
