Being a teacher isn’t an easy job, but it can be made easy too. Just know your ABCs!
Teachers need only to be…
Adventurous. Engage them in lessons with exciting activities. Search ways to make learning fun.
Big-hearted. Love your pupils, it takes a big heart to shape these little minds.
Creative. There are lots of activities to make teaching-learning fun for your class.
Determined. Do not give up on any pupil, always put your best foot forward. Let your pupils see the beauty of subject you’re teaching and learn to like it.
Encouraging. Talk to your pupils and tell them they can do it. Teachers never lose their “ganas” to make pupils appreciate the subject.
Flexible. Understand that some things are beyond your control; adjust instantly to lesson failure and unexpected interruptions, go with the flow.
Goal-oriented. Set goals with you pupils, small goals often achievable in one class period.
Humorous. Asense of humoris the mark of a confident teacher. The ability to add a touch of wit to learning situations is valuable in promoting learning.
Interactive. Remember, teaching is a two-way process, make classroom pupil-centered, not just teachers making lectures.
Joyful. Finding ways to celebrate pupils’ success is the best way to demonstrate the importance of learning.
Knowledgeable. Be content expert, know the subject matter being taught; never stop learning. Welcome suggestions willingly and make improvements, if necessary.
Likable. Can relate well to her pupils. Demonstrate good character at all times. Have the best possible appearance everyday; Dress like a teacher and act like a teacher.
Modern. Always updating her classroom and methodology, change with the times.
Noble. Strive to set an example by having outstanding character. Acquire high ideals and show love for children. Just love to teach
Organized. Everything in your classroom must be in place. Keep the flow of the classroom going in the right direction.
Prepared. All materials must be ready and go well in advance of the lesson. The teacher must prepare lessons with imagination and make them appealing.
Questioning. Demonstrate curiosity abouteverythingand share that curiosity with pupils.
Respectful. Give respect to each pupil because it is the only way to earn their respect. Recognize that they are real people with different personalities/interests; and respect those differences.
Strong. Be able to stand for hours at a time, willing to go the extra mile especially for those struggling pupils.
Tactful. Be diplomatic and choose words carefully.
Understanding. Be constantly aware of pupil moods and behavior; understand the difference between a bad day and a bad attitude; and respond accordingly.
Verbally-proficient. Speak grammatically; explain concepts and directions clearly; speak with confidence and authority.
Well-rounded. Must be a “jack of all trades”. Develop skills and interests outside the classroom; remember, pupils must be equipped with knowledge they can use to every aspect of their lives.
X factor. Find a way to make a difference. Be a teacher with the ability to reach that pupil that no one has been able to reach before. Think of several novel ways of teaching and experiment with different methods in each class.
Youthful. Exhibit curiosity and enthusiasm and keep up with the culture and concerns of pupils You may get older, but seeing your pupils learn fuels you.
Zealous. Be passionate about teaching and learning. No one can question your commitment to the profession or to your pupils.
Indeed, successful teachers have found teaching a very enjoyable job. I hope that the ideas above will make your teaching rewarding and even pleasurable!
