Education is the key to success, as the familiar saying goes. And education is a lifelong process, as learning doesn’t stop. Every individual no matter his age is still can learn, and still can go to school. The right to education is universal. Anybody can go to school, irrespective of age. These adults share their personal reasons why at an early age they did not go to school.
We have witnessed so many inspiring stories about an adult who wasn’t given a chance to study when he was young, so when time gives them the opportunity, they gladly take it regardless of their age. They want to experience being at school. They want to replace the missed times. Also, these adults would like to develop basic educational and vocational skills necessary to survive in society and participate in social life.
Society needs individuals who are equipped with the knowledge, so they will be able to contribute to the better of the community. With this purpose, they provide a program like adult education to give them the learning taken away by the circumstances when they are still young. Vocational training is offered to teach these adults different skills they can use to continue living because they believe that illiteracy is one of the biggest factors why one experiences struggles and hardships in life. They don’t have that weapon to solve their problems because they are illiterate.
The government is spending a lot of money on a variety of programs that meet the needs of adults to be educated. Is it worth spending millions of pesos? How will society benefits from adult education?
To survive, every single individual has to be armed with life skills needed to combat problems and to continue living. It is just fair and right that an adult is given a chance to acquire education even if he is already in the peak stage of his life because the skills he will gain from his late education will greatly help him in his life battle. We shouldn’t think that it is too late for them. As long as they are alive, regardless of their age, they still will be able to utilize what they have learned.
