The art of teaching does only involve verbal discussion and execution of action. It also requires instructional devices which will further make teaching more interesting and fruitful.
The traditional instructional materials are the textbooks, workbooks, visual aids and charts
These are the advisable instructional devices at which would aid the teacher in his/ her job. To wit:
Strategic Intervention Material (SIM). This is instructional material which aims to teach concepts or ideas in order to supplement learning and develop mastery. This is normally used in teaching science and math lessons. It is consisted of guide card, activity card, assessment card, enrichment card and reference card. This is a colorful and creative instructional device.
Graphic Organizer. This may be in the form of diagrams, charts, tables, flowcharts and graphs. This gives a clear presentation of ideas in an organized manner. It shows the components of a certain main idea or parts of a particular mechanism. This is the simplified way of explaining the concepts to the learners.
Power point Presentation. This is an effective way of presenting the lessons at present. It is consisted of various slides with texts, pictures and other designs in order to present the lesson clearly and completely. It may also have visual and sound effects to make the lessons more inviting to the students or pupils.
Educational Videos. Different educational movies in history, in science, in character education and even in showing fiction and non-fiction in literature subjects are made possible by this educational device. It is made wider before the eyes of the learners by using LCD projector and a tripod. The usual narrative made by teachers and students are now replaced by videos.
Improvised Materials. Several materials in teaching various subjects are now made possible by improvised materials. Having a replica or illustration of something can be made possible using the available materials around and forming a certain object which can be used for instructions. The creativity of the teachers and learners are manifested by means improvised instructional and learning materials.
Modern tools and equipment. Since the Department of Education has already allotted enough budget for instructional materials, the schools have already acquired actual tools and equipment which will aid the teaching-learning process. Experiential learning can be much evident because of the availability and accessibility of the modern educational tools and equipment.
These are the latest and advisable educational devices which can assist the teaching-learning instructions for the benefits of the educational clientele in the Philippines.
