ALS 102: THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ALTERNATIVE LEARNING SYSTEM DIFFERENT ACRONYMS USED IN ALS PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS

Acronyms, Technically, a word that is formed by combining some parts (usually the first letters) of some other terms. We actually see and hear a lot of these in the Alternative Learning System usually associate it with “non-formal and informal learning . In these issue we will learn a lot of frequently used acronyms in ALS Programs and Projects. This will be benefited by newly designated District ALS Coordinators, Mobile Teachers, Learners and even students.

The following are the most frequently used acronyms.

FLT ( Functional Literacy Test ) – a test to assess the different skills of the learners.It tries to measure the learner’s literacy levels in reading, writing and computational skills.

CLC ( Community Learning Center ) – a place where ALS holds classes which can  just be any space available – jail, barangay hall, sports center, and chapel, among others.

IPED ( Indigenous Peoples Education ) – provide an IP education service acceptable to IP’s in general and to specific communities in particular.

BPOSA ( BalikPaaralansa Out of School Adults ) – is a certificate program offered to those who wish to earn an equivalent high-school diploma.

BLP ( Basic Literacy Program ) – is an intensive community – based training for illiterate out of school youth and adults, who are willing to learn basic literacy skills.

INFED ( Informal Education ) – is a lifelong process of learning by which every person acquires and accumulates knowledge, skills, attitudes and insights from daily experiences at home, at work, at play and from life self.

LSDS ( Learning Support Delivery System ) – using the Unified Guidelines for the ALS Contracting Scheme with Service Providers (NGOs, LGUs, SUCs, other GOs and other  private organizations) to provide learners a range of flexible learning support services in order that they may continue their learning outside of the formal school system and upgrade their skills and competencies in preparation for taking the ALS A&E tests.

AFLEP (Adolescent Friendly Literacy Enhancement Project) -This is a project  which targets out-of-school   adolescents  ages 10 – 24 years old. It provides them with  basic literacy about early marriage and parenting , family planning , drug prevention education, livelihood projects, health education and environmental education.
