Social media has had a significant impact on how we interact with one another. Different platforms have brought us closer together in new and profound ways.

Unfortunately, social media has a negative aspect: fake news and cyberbullying. Misinformation, fake news, and rumors spread quicker on social media than reliable information and even faster than the virus, causing harm to health systems and hurting the mental health of social media users.

Teachers, on the other hand, must play an important role in combatting the spread of fake news and encouraging safe social media behavior. Fake news can be avoided by teaching learners to be more mindful of any false information they encounter on social media. The ability to question is the most important skill a pupil can have. Encourage them to do some research if they are unsure of what they see to avoid misinformation.

Moreover, cyberbullying, can be avoided if teachers influence these children by modeling positive online behavior. They must understand the importance of thinking before posting something on social media. Instead of sharing bad things on social media, encourage them to share information that will benefit others. It is now just as important to teach them how to thrive in our internet-dominated world as it is to teach them how to read and write. For the time being, it is up to the parents and teachers to collaborate to support and protect pupils while they are online. And equip them with the skills they require to thrive

To quote, according to the code of ethics for teachers, “teachers should always keep in mind that they should always demonstrate impartiality, integrity, and ethical behavior whether virtual or in-person to their students as they have a primary role in their student’s life.”
