Family is the basic unit of our society. It consists of parents and children. Parents have the most direct and lasting impact on children’s learning and development of social competence. The child’s first teacher was his mother.Shetought him how to write ABCs and the idea of what is right and wrong. Student spend more of his time in school. All families are counting on that school to care about their children, mind and values formation. That is a huge responsibility. And we,educators seriously deal with it..
Schools have Parent-Teachers Conferences to report students progress and other matters that concern learners.Asteachers,my colleagues and I , observed that students with parents who actively come to school are very proud and inspired to perform well, while students who have parents absenteeism every time the school call for them also have an student absenteeism problem, cutting classes, poor academic performance and behavioral problems. It is an affirmation to an article that call my attention in Ask.com entitled “Why Family and Community Involvement Is Important.”It state thatstudents whose parents are involved in their education are more likely to:
- Adapt well to school
- Attend school more regularly
- Complete homework more consistently
- Earn higher grades and test scores
- Graduate and go on to college
- Have better social skills
- Show improved behavior
- Have better relationships with their parents
- Have higher self-esteem
Establishing a dialogue to encourage parents to come to school is now a great challenge to us,specifically with the result stated above. Our learners are not sole responsibility of the school. Families and schools even community must establish strong relationship for the common good of our students.Partnership is needed to mold a whollistic child/learner.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” According to Nelson Mandela.
Come!Lets join hand-in-hand for the future success of our dear students.
We love it when parents get involved to our learners education.
