Truly, this new normal education especially the modular distance learning is attributed with self-learning nature. Most of the learners need further assistance, guidance and support from the parents and teachers in helping them possess sufficient readiness and competence in facing the self-learning nature and functions of new normal modular learning modality. It is observable and evident that huge number of learners may encounter issues, problems and challenges in coping with the self-learning system of modular modality. This lower level of readiness of many learners towards independent modular learning can be linked with the several years of their exposure and dependence to face to face, direct, physical instruction during the period prior to the pandemic crisis. Being habituated and accustomed in receiving instruction and mentoring services from their teachers, it is indeed difficult for the learners to immediately and abruptly adjust to the sudden and temporary demands to face independent learning especially under the modular modality.
It also shows that this new normal modular distance learning period is indeed the very first time when learners are entrusted and obliged to purely and completely rely on their self-learning abilities and skills in accomplishing learning tasks and activities. It is the first time when the learners would depend on following instructions in learning modules on how to execute certain instructional tasks and activities without being instructed, taught and mentored personally by their teachers. Likewise, the shift and temporary changes in the learning system and learning environment also further contribute to factors that define learners’ readiness towards modular instruction. Therefore, in this new normal modular distance learning, learners would face the need to adjust not only on the use of modules itself, but on the entire learning habits, setting, schedule and environment to facilitate modular distance learning.
