Science is one of the most interesting subject areas in education. It allows the child to explore the knowledge surrounding him/her and even beyond. That is why the great challenge is bestowed on the science teacher and this advocacy is instilled in his/her mind.
To make science more inviting to our dear learners, it is suggested that science teacher should manifest genuine creativity through various hands-on activities using various resources and instructional materials. With the combination of these, the science teacher’s creativity will flourish.
To achieve such creativity in teaching science the following should be noted by the teacher:
- A science teacher aims at adoptingcreative attitudes. He/she must exhibit confidence, interests and values in teaching;
- A science teacher has different thinking abilities. He/she must possess fluency, flexibility, unusualness and elaboration in self-developing science experiments with simple everyday items;
- A science teacher has strategies advocated in the program which include — hands-on inquiry, breaking of perceptual and cognitive sets, generation of multiple answers, suspension of judgment in brainstorming, attribute listing, usage of checklist, morphological synthesis, modeling and providing creative examples, thought-provoking questioning, cultivation of playful environment and self-reflection for meta-cognitive awareness.
- A science teacher’s creativity is the ability to produce work that is both novel which means original, unexpected, and appropriate that is useful, adaptive concerning various tasks.
- A science teacher has framework, creativity is hypothesized as a union of three kinds of resources: creativity-relevant skills or across domains, domain-relevant knowledge and skills or domain-specific, and task motivation.
- A science teacher has domain-relevant resources include factual knowledge, technical skills and special talents in the domain. Creativity-relevant resources include appropriate cognitive style, personality trait, favorable work style and knowledge of strategies for generating novel ideas.
- A science teacher has intrinsic motivation, emphasizing the importance of promoting a “playful attitude” in the environment. The teachers that are able to maintain playfulness, may continue to focus on the interest and enjoyment they derived from the task.
