Realistically a lot the learners at present need to be improved in terms of reading and the teachers should serve as the best catalysts of change among them in reaching their best potential in reading.

                It is much better if the teacher follows the following reading strategies that will further aid the pupils to be at their best in reading:

            Best Reading Strategy 1.  Have an Explicit Word Analysis Instruction. The teacher should build word knowledge.  In achieving this, the teacher leads the learners to phonemic awareness, phonics, word recognition, structural analysis, context clues and vocabulary.  The power of knowing a lot of words and their structures is beneficial and helpful to the reader.

Best Reading Strategy 2. Initiate Assessment to inform instruction. Teacher must regularly monitor and assess the reading level of the pupils.  By gauging their progress, the teacher will be able to determine what needs to be improved and be taught to improve their reading abilities.

Best Reading Strategy 3.  Utilize instructional planning.  The teacher should have an action plan for before, during and after stages in teaching the child to read better.  In having a proper plan, the teacher will be more systematic in guiding the child’s development and progress.

Best Reading Strategy 4. Have Collaboration and Reflection. The teacher must routinely collaborate the instructional practices and the pupil’s development and progress, and should reflect on the best way to enhance his/her reading prowess.

Best Reading Strategy 5. Follow the word standards.  Whether in meaning, spelling or pronunciation, the teacher should follow the standard of English language.

Best Reading Strategy 6. Lead the learners to independent reading.  Whether in oral or silent reading, the teacher should give the encouragement and opportunity to transform the child into an independent and dynamic reader.

Best Reading Strategy 7. Make the child realize the purpose of reading.  The teacher should heartily instill in one’s mind and heart the value of reading.  In doing such, the learner will be able to accept the essence of reading.

Best Reading Strategy 8. Build comprehension skills.  It’s not merely recognizing words in terms of spelling, structure and sound but what is more important is to build the comprehension skills of the learners.

By means of the best reading practices or strategies, the teachers will be able to develop and enhance the pupils in the terms of reading potentials and this is truly beneficial to the learners.
