As teachers, our role is not only to teach learners with topics under the K-12 program. It is vital to engage them to learning process, therefore selecting a style that addresses the needs of diverse students at different learning levels is also important. Assessing strength and things that needs improvement is also a factor that will help the educators to enhance their own skills, how? After a self- evaluation of strength and weaknesses, Teacher now able to learn what works best for her through the help of the master teachers.
For more than years of teaching, I use different styles in teaching Science such as Activity styles. This helps to develop skills to find answers and solutions through exploration. This kind of style challenge me to interact with students towards discovery rather than lecturing facts and testing knowledge through memorization. With the activity method, I always use rubrics enable to assess the activity output of students. Another best practices is the group style approach, in this method guided discovery and inquiry based learning places the teacher in an observer role that inspires students by working in tandem toward common goals. For example asking the students to create a story that illustrates ways of preventing diseases and guided them with the criteria. In this approach the group will work hand in hand towards one goal. Another best practice is through the use of famous application game that enable the students to do analytical thinking in answering sets of puzzle.
With the various best practices that I used, I can say that this made my teaching experience a successful because I know that the students learned a lot because I engaged them in the learning process.
