Humanism, with its focus on individual needs, personal growth, and autonomy, is a philosophy that greatly influences my approach to teaching. Encouraging learners to actively create a simple publication like a flyer using Microsoft Publisher aligns perfectly with the humanistic principles that value hands-on learning and personal expression. One of the key aspects of humanistic education is recognizing and respecting the unique abilities and interests of each learner. By giving students the opportunity to create a flyer, I am providing a platform for them to showcase their creativity, communication skills, and personal interests. This task allows them to take ownership of their learning and express themselves in a way that resonates with their individuality.

In this activity, learners are not mere recipients of information but active participants in the learning process. As they navigate through Microsoft Publisher’s tools and features to design their flyers, they are engaged in problem-solving and critical thinking. They must consider the layout, content, and visual elements, making decisions that align with their intended message and target audience. The process of creating a flyer using technology also promotes digital literacy and technological proficiency. Students learn practical skills that are relevant in today’s world, preparing them for real-life situations and potential future careers. They become more confident in navigating digital tools and utilizing technology as a means of self-expression and communication.

Beyond the technical skills, this activity fosters creativity and innovation. Humanistic education values the development of the whole person, including their emotional and creative aspects. Learners have the freedom to experiment with different designs, colors, and formats, allowing them to explore their imagination and produce a flyer that represents their unique vision. As an educator, my role is to support and guide learners throughout the process, offering assistance when needed and providing constructive feedback. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to take risks and learn from their mistakes. By nurturing their self-esteem and confidence, I help them recognize their own potential and capabilities. By actively creating their publication, students develop a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work. This feeling of success fuels their motivation to learn and encourages them to seek out new challenges. They see the tangible result of their efforts, reinforcing the belief that their ideas and contributions are valuable.

Incorporating a task like creating a flyer using Microsoft Publisher aligns seamlessly with the humanistic philosophy of teaching. It empowers learners to actively engage in their own learning, express their creativity, and develop practical skills that extend beyond the classroom. By valuing individuality and providing opportunities for self-expression, I strive to create a learning environment that nurtures the whole person and instills a lifelong passion for learning and personal growth.
