Being one of the wealthiest individuals on this world and one of the few who not only has a dream, but also a determination and desire to build computers that would work flawlessly, Bill Gates might really have something worth learning about the problems and potential of education. Bill Gates was a drop out from Harvard and did not finish college but he left formal schooling for a reason. According to him, higher education is one of the key elements in providing equal opportunity for all and, that for this to happen, we all need to have equal access to higher education and an equal chance of succeeding. He noted that college graduates will earn almost double what high school graduates will during their lifetime and that unemployment rates of college graduates are very low. He suggested that we are beyond being able to fine-tune the model and that we need to see radical change. Our sources of revenue are being challenged, and we cannot expect them to increase in the coming years, and therefore we need to develop much greater efficiencies in how we deliver our product. They ought to raise the tough questions regarding what education services provide and how much overlap they require. He also noted that there are non-pecuniary benefits to a college degree.
If I would look at Gates’ view on higher education, its role focuses in sustainable economic and social growth that is increasing year on year, and this will continue in the coming decades. Higher education was seen as a focal point of expertise and its implementation, an organization that makes a significant contribution to economic growth and prosperity by promoting creativity and growing higher skills. This is used as a means to boost the standard of living and tackle big social and economic problems. Higher education is widely described as one of the main drivers of development, productivity and competitiveness. It offers an individual the chance to thrive in today’s global economy. Modern colleges provide their graduates with a number of programs aimed at training them for various areas of the economy, enabling them to continue and step on in the job market for a long period, initiatives that create a difference in labor market results and keep up with shifts in the world environment and developments in the labor market.
Higher education is a catalyst of progress and creativity. Some of the roles of contemporary institutions is to identify answers to global problems and to undertake work in key areas around the planet, leading to positive benefits such as well-being and civic participation. This is also targeted at developing inventions that result in innovative goods and provide sophisticated technology for usage. Knowledge is the true basis of higher education: its production via research, its transmission via teaching, its acquisition and use by students.
Countries are placing information at the disposal of their communities in order to build a healthier environment. That will be done by educating first-class brains, by bringing significant strides in research and technology, and by fostering an engagement in learning. Today , in order to achieve its maximum potential, higher education must adopt a constructive posture, reinforce its role as the base upon which countries are based.
