The rate of population increase is somehow directly proportional to the rate of animal and plant extinction.
Due to the continuous increase in human population, the environment suffers. The damaging effects of the unlimited human needs to the ecosystem cause disequilibrium. Now more than ever this predicament needs to be addressed.
People need to realize that over population greatly contributes to the dwindling resources. With the limited natural resources and limited food supply when there are too many people, some will starve. The more mouth to feed, the more resources required to sustain human life. This in the end results to less for the other species.
For instance, the increasing population demands more housing. The tendency is that land must be cleared to build houses. Believe it or not cleared land areas are home for different animals. This affects the balance in the ecosystem. Animals and plants rely on one another for survival, just like how humans rely on their environment. If certain species are taken out of the equation the entire system will die.
It doesn’t just stop there. Over population means pollution, humans throw their garbage carelessly everywhere without realizing that this is harmful to their entire existence. They are not the only one who must deal with pollution, the fauna and flora too. This is something unbearable for the defenseless wildlife.
Multiple short clips on the internet revealed that many species of birds and marine animals are nearly in extinction due to remarkable number of deaths related to plastic ingestion and toxin accumulation in the body.
The downfall of biodiversity because of over population is too obvious but people are just blinded. They must take action or else, like all the other species, human race will face extinction.
