In spite of the fact that the implementation of K-12 faced rough sailing, it has finally put into operation.

The Philippines was one of only three countries in the world and the only one in Asia that still had only 10 years in basic education, prior to the implementation of the education agenda.

The shorter educational cycle had always been seen as disadvantageous to Filipino students who compete in the global job market.  Hence, K-12 has been seen as a critical equalizer so that Filipino graduates would become more competitive.

According to former Education Secretary Br. Armin Luistro FSC, the Senior High School Program lets our learners choose the appropriate tracks they see fit for them and gives them the opportunity to choose their own tracks depending on their life plans.

The parents and some quarters that oppose the program must realize that, since it is part of the basic education, the government is duty bound to bear the expenses. Those who oppose the education agenda must realize also that unlike the previous education system, parents have to bear the expenses for an additional two years of vocational course, if they want their children to gain descent employment. In the new system, students will even learn entrepreneurship, thus we fulfill the dreams of our national hero, Jose Rizal, that most Filipinos shall become business owners rather than employees.

The K-12 clearly promotes development and acquisition of skills. It is not just an additional financial burden. It addresses fiscal need.

To put in a nutshell, K-12 will get to the bottom of; workforce readiness, skill competency and preparedness to enter tertiary education.  P

Everybody must support this government program that aims to promote national growth and development.
