The two-year hiatus of face-to-face learning decelerated the learning progress of the learners. Based on the assessments of teachers to their students, it is not as effective as before. Parents and teachers pay lesser attention to the basics of learning such as reading, writing and counting due to some reasons. Some of the parents and guardians are working and have no time to guide their children in their studies. Some learners come from low-income families who do not afford to provide earning aids such as internet, smartphones and laptops. Teachers have limited access to reach for their learners especially those who are in modular distance learning. There are also lesser time due to prescribed number of hours of being in an online class for each grade level. There are so much factor why learning gaps occur.
When the limited face-to-face classes started, these learning gaps are very evident. Learners were adjusting on going and taking classes. Teachers prepared assessments to gauge what the learners had learned for the past two school years. More so, they provide enrichment activities to address those deficiencies and not attained learning objectives. It is a full effort among teachers, learners, school and parents to bridge this two-year learning gap as preparation for the next school year.
This might be a big issue and problem as we go on to the next school year. However, we should still look forward that this will be resolved and we will victoriously eradicate these gaps and still provide quality education and holistic life-long learners.
