One of the thrusts of President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III in his administration is the improvement of the quality of Philippine Education, particularly basic education as reflected in his Policy statement, as follows:
POLICY STATEMENT
“ We need to add two more years to our basic education. Those who can afford pay up to fourteen years of schooling before universities. Thus, their children are getting into the best universities and the best jobs after graduation. I want at least 12 years for our public school children to give them an even chance at succeeding”.
President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino, III
Indeed , the statement will pave the way for an even better future for young Filipinos by equipping them with basic education up to international standards. In the same way that it will envision future graduates to: possess sufficient mastery of basic competencies; be emotionally developed and competent to live a meaningful life; be socially aware, proactive and involve in public and civic affairs; adequately prepared for the world of work or entrepreneurship or higher education, employable and globally competitive.
Definitely , this action of PresidentBenigno Aquino III is very rewarding since it will lead young Filipinos to have better future ahead of them making lives more notable and fulfilling .Notwithstanding with the intense effect to the young Filipinos, it will eventually bring progress and economic growth. However, its gradual year to year implementation, as a massive program will undergo birthing pains and growth problems putting the legislative measures related to educations into action enabling the K-12 education curriculum for implementation. But of course, the openness, involvement, commitment and cooperation of the stakeholders will help ensure the success of the program.
One thing is clear: the Philippines is looking ahead. Many Filipino parents welcome the basic education reforms and are looking forward to more opportunities for their children in vocational and higher education.
