Skills and abilities are the fundamentals of success in the world today. The global economy chooses individuals with mastery on certain skills in order to materialize economic success. Skills are very vital for survival.
There are two basic ways to achieve skills. The first one is experience, while the other one is formal education. However, if we examine it closely, we will notice that experience and formal education merge into an umbrella term. Education, formal or not, is one of the important keys to success today. People from different walks of life need different levels of education in order to survive
.
Admittedly, being a developing country makes it difficult for us to cope with the global economy. Most of our population is composed of the urban and rural poor. These people do not have
access to quality education because of different reasons. However, the reasons that hinder from being
in the know can be summed up in one word: poverty.
Our country is suffering from intense poverty that the problem weakens other aspects of our nation especially the education system. Our high school dropouts have increased in years. Poverty forces children out of school to work for their families. But the sad thing is – in a globalized economy, no education means no job.
As of today, our country faces numerous problems that affect our endeavors in solving our problems in education. It is time for educators to encourage students to go back to school. It is important that we bring back the quality education to the masses.
As of the moment, there is still hope for educational reformation. We, the people from the
academe, have the optimum power to create social change. We should not lose hope with our youth and in our people. Every learned student is a spirit for bringing quality education back to the people.
