In any endeavor, especially if we deal with different individuals, rapport is one of the foundations required to achieve success. In a school institution, teachers play different roles and the students of course are the clients or the main focus in the teaching- learning process. Being the leader, educator, second parent, adviser, facilitator and sometimes peacemaker, it is important to build a strong and successful relationship with the students. So many factors to consider and it’s a tough job but nothing beats a teacher who has the heart and the determination to do it. How can a teacher establish positive relationship with the students? Knowing the students’ personalities and applying appropriate teaching styles may serve as bases for establishing it.
Nowadays, students act and behave differently because of many factors but, showing deep concern will promote love and understanding that in the end will help them improved their misbehaviors. Mutual respect during communication and interaction in and out of the classroom must be encouraged between teacher and students. Building trust with the students is one of the challenging tasks in teaching profession but we have to find the best ways to overcome the struggles. Being compassionate all the time will make the students feel their importance. In most cases, teacher encounter difficulties in dealing with their students who are products of broken home and as a result these students tend to show unacceptable behavior and are actually irresponsible of many things. With God’s grace, helping the students to be honest and motivating them in a positive way to disclose whatever burdens them is a good strategy.
Furthermore, developing teaching strategies will help establish good teacher student relationship because students will become motivated and challenged. Be of help in developing self-confidence and self-esteem. Another important thing is keeping students’ anecdotal records updated to better know and understand their personalities
