Education is a life-long learning. It entails a lot of current trends to adopt so as to ensure a quality produce who will be competitive in a global society. School officials responsible in managing the educational institution should exhibit the best and suitable management and leadership strategies and styles for the mentors, students and the stakeholders. In the end, the school performance through the National Achievement Test, school contests both academic and non-academic mirrored how well the school has performed.
Through benchmarking, some best practices executed by the performing schools have been observed. To name a few, please take note of the following: a.) Close Supervision – done by the school head and the department heads, they monitor the day to day classroom instruction and sees to it that the learning competencies and skills are followed religiously, b.) Time on Task – teaching-learning contact days must be complete; Saturday classes are even held in lieu to missed school days. In addition, the conduct of Independent Cooperative Learning ( ICL ) in the K to 12 Curriculum pave a way for remedial teaching by learning area for the low performing students in each class likewise , through ICL failing students were lessen. Peer teaching, on the other hand is also an effective tool to make students learn, with their peers to the rescue, they feel more comfortable to ask questions about the topics discussed. Teacher’s intervention materials and their differentiated instruction helped a lot for the learners to understand the lesson. What more if a mentor applies various study habits among the students like, reading habit with comprehension questions; one reading material a week, one question a day, three questions in a week; which may be held few minutes before the lesson proper, Word bank / Word Power – any word related to the lesson; with its meaning listed on their notes.
For the whole school year, teachers may pattern their test items to that given in the national Achievement Test its for the learners to familiarize themselves in following instruction/direction, different type of tests, and shading the correct answer.
The school administration encourage the teachers to attend seminars and other professional development activities conducted by DepEd and other educational companies and implement the needed changes and transformation called for as suggested or required in the trainings attended. Teachers teach their major subjects. Teachers are encouraged to take professional studies. Confer with the parents/guardians and ask their help to assist in the reinforcement of lessons at home. Most of all, school heads should do away a regular bonding with their teachers, staff and personnel its not only for the purpose of enjoyment but most specially to recharge, develop rapport, instill dedication while enjoying their noblest profession.
