Education has always been the focal point of many discussions when it comes to national development and government measures to improve the Filipino standard of living. At one point, education is the vital instrument to attain national goals and targets and in another point, education is the culprit in the instability the country is facing. Much has been said about the quality of Philippine education but educators would never rest until everything has been placed in proper perspective.

Various programs and innovations were undertaken in order to attain a better quality of education. Curriculum and education experts have put their heads together thinking of education reforms. The government has allocated the biggest slice of the national budget for education. Various and rigorous trainings have been implemented for the teaching and non-teaching personnel. Education was made a joint undertaking and responsibility of the internal and external stakeholders.

However, the search for better quality of education does not end there. There are still rooms for improvement and much work has to be done. The educators are accountable and responsible for the present status of education in the Philippines. That makes education truly a responsibility of the whole nation.

It is a sad thing to note however, that despite of the many attempts to improve the quality of education negative remarks are being thrown the education sector. It is true that there are still inadequacies in the field whether in human or material resources but this may be attributed to the growing population and the economic instability the country is facing. Many fingers were pointed at different directions trying to identify the culprit on the declining quality of education but as we point a finger more fingers are pointing towards us.

It is high time for all stakeholders to think twice and join forces in order to attain our vision of producing better graduates and globally competitive citizens. This country owes a lot to education but the people can do a lot to make education meaningful and worth having.
