Getting along with 5-year old children require some character traits to ensure the success of the teaching-learning process. Working with young children is a rewarding occupation because you as their teacher build the foundation of what they would be in the future.
Seven years of experience in teaching Kindergarten pupils helped me identify the characteristics Kindergarten teachers should possessed.
- It is very important that there is true passion for teaching. If you simply consider teaching as a job, it would be so tiring. But if you love and enjoy teaching you will be able to be a better teacher.
- Patience as the ability to maintain good attitude even under difficult circumstance. Understanding the nature of children combined with patience would help you handle conflicts that may occur. Assisting slow learner pupils also require patience.
- A kinder teacher should be creative. Creativity would make instructional material appealing to the pupils. It is also important in room-structuring.
- If you’re a teacher, you should be resourceful to provide learning materials that could facilitate the teaching-learning process. Resourcefulness is also need in providing concrete materials to be presented to the pupil.
- A kinder teacher should be an artist. This is very important especially during storytelling. Pupils enjoy more when the teacher portray characters.
These are only some of the characteristics o kinder teacher should possess. It has been said that the teachers herself is already an instructional aid to the pupils. Thus be the best that you can be for you never know when your influence stops.
