Filipino are known of being fluent in terms of English language most Filipino who work abroad are appreciated and paid high by their employer because of giving high quality of their work and can communicate properly. This is our advantage because even in the public schools teacher persuaded and trained the pupils to speak English inside the classroom.
However, despite of encouraging pupils to speak English fluently they find difficulty in pursuing themselves because of their cultural background. As classroom teachers in English, we should familiarize ourselves with the main element of English language teaching, taking into consideration, the pupils, process of language learning and teaching, learning materials that are usually available, the classroom environment, and kind of equipment that we must use.
We must also consider the involvement of both student and teachers. All learners are the same outside class. They have family, friends, work, study, play responsibilities, a place to use and all the joys and sources that come with those things. In class they bring with them their names, their knowledge, experiences, intelligences, skills, emotions, imagination, creativity, preferences and everything else that goes with a human including the ability to speak at least one language.
Learners differ from each other and they also influence by their age, educational, social, and cultural background which may differ from their fellow students and teacher. A typical and good language learner.
- Has a positive attitude about the language he wants to learn and speak.
- Has a strong personal motivation to learn the language.
- Must be confident that he will be a successful learner.
- Practice the language and communicative skills.
- Likes to learn about the language.
As teachers we should understand that our pupils are willing to learn English language all we can do is to encourage them that to learn language is to learn on how to express themselves. Teachers have to be sensitive to social distinctions aware the personal needs, learning purposes and learning style of every individual, and make our classrooms places where the learners can perform freely and improve to become a competitive young Filipino citizen. The success of teachers can be measured by how much their student learned.
