One of the most important tasks of the teacher is to set-up and arrange the classroom in such a way that the teacher becomes an effective facilitator of learning.
The way the classroom is physically arranged shows the message the teacher conveys to the pupils. A classroom that is attractively arranged with properly displayed books and learning materials for children to manipulate conveys the message that the pupils can explore the materials for learning new things with their classmates. On the other hand, a classroom that contains neatly arranged rows of desks, books stored in cabinets and bulletin boards that contain decorative labels made by the teacher show that teacher is in control of the learning in the classroom.
It is important that the classroom lay-out at start of the school year should be changed depending upon the needs and conditions of the learners. Most often we are so preoccupied with many things on what to do with our classrooms in preparation for the first day of school.
The classroom arrangement makes life easier for the teacher and the pupils to work together in different situations for different purposes, not more difficult.
