Secretary. Personal Assistant. Aide. Clerks. Yes, we all know them… how they work, how they run errands, how they take down notes and answer calls. Boring for some, and quite low for others. But with the fast-paced technologies and emerging innovations in our field of work, one will be shocked of how clerical staffs blend well in the continuously upgrading work environment.
First, the qualification standard of clerical staff is tight with regards to educational attainment, eligibility, experience and trainings attended. One may not miss any of those. A clerk must also strive to better him/her self, by means of continuing education or skills training, to secure current position or vie for higher ones. Second, a clerk must be able to keep up with fast-paced technologies. From making report presentations, fast & efficient encoding and consolidating of data, to electronic submission of files, to updating websites, use of various social media, to providing technical assistance to other personnel. At every turn, new and better tools for clerical work emerges. And it’s in a clerk’s perspective to adapt them. Lastly, the attitude of these clerical assistants that may or not be a factor to a long-lasting employment. Being a clerk means being subservient and yet, assertive in some ways. You follow the rules, you obey the rules but aggressive on how you handle and carry-out the tasks at hand. You will meet different clients, work with different people, and a clerk must be able to carry him/herself well. Must be able to juggle all the tasks and errands with a smile, while making coffee at the side.
Well, Clerks be like… a compassionate, multitasking employee who is just as deserving as everyone else.
