Motivation and education are undeniably interconnected and essential for human survival. Motivation is characterized as a catalyst that incites individuals’ enthusiasm and commitment to sustain interest and dedication to a task, profession, or topic throughout time or to endeavor to attain a goal. Motivation comprises both conscious and unconscious factors, including the intensity of desire or necessity and the individual’s anticipations. Motivation, as defined by scholars, pertains to the factors that propel behavior. Also, motivation is the attribute that compels us to act or refrain from action. Education is a continuous process. We gather knowledge and perceive the universe throughout our existence, from birth to death.
“As the adage suggests, Living is synonymous with learning,” and the acquisition of knowledge ceases only upon the cessation of breath. Teachers are the primary source of our inspiration. Educators are artisans who transform formless material into extraordinary and unique sculptures. The teachers, driven by their zeal and genuine care, consistently assist students without fatigue. Educators must take into account several psychological factors that significantly influence the learning process to empower kids and assist them in becoming informed members of society.
Motivation is undoubtedly the driving force for educators to do their duties and for students to persist in their endeavors. It is the key psychological factor. Driven individuals acquire knowledge more rapidly and effectively. Moreover, motivation is an individual characteristic, as each person may be inspired in distinct manners. Sometimes, people read motivational quotations to escape my daily routines and concerns. These words motivate them to persevere in all circumstances and to continue progressing. Motivational language and a positive mindset can significantly alter an individual’s life and assist them in attaining their objectives. “To be motivated signifies being compelled to take action,” as the adage states.
Teachers have consistently been regarded as motivators. Those educators consistently inspire pupils to learn by including enjoyment in the teaching process while simultaneously fostering confidence and enhancing self-esteem through motivational techniques. Motivation is an essential element of effective learning. A deficiency in motivation might result in a life of discontent. Students lacking enthusiasm in school are unable to progress and achieve excellent academic results. Scholars categorized motivation into primary and secondary types. Primary motivation occurs when students exhibit enthusiasm for learning, driven by intrinsic desire, while secondary motivation pertains to external obligations; pupils engage in learning to get passing grades, evade consequences, or satisfy parental and teacher expectations.
Research has demonstrated that motivated pupils exhibit greater efficacy in academic settings. Clearly, motivation may be either constructive or detrimental, like the duality of a coin. A prize for exemplary performance serves as positive motivation. For instance, when students compose or read with inaccuracies, a teacher could aid them in rectifying their mistakes and endeavor to elucidate each regulation meticulously. The teacher has to refrain from hastily concluding and admonishing them; rather, a teacher endeavor to comprehend their perspectives and dedicate efforts to enhancing their knowledge, acknowledging their minor achievements, and anticipating improved results in the future.
Meanwhile, negative motivation refers to a punishment for inadequate performance or failing to fulfill academic obligations. For instance, a little youngster who participated in a swimming competition experienced disappointment and distress due to his coach’s disparaging remarks. His motivation had diminished to the extent that he contemplated surrendering. His teacher informed him that with increased practice, he would achieve excellence and success. He was on the verge of becoming a champion a few days prior. This is the result of effective motivation.
Ultimately, as a MAPEH teacher, I wish to underscore that fostering motivation compels students to exert greater effort and achieve success in their academic pursuits. During teaching, the educator should facilitate the application of nurturing motivation, which may serve as an effective strategy for overcoming challenges. Undoubtedly, his students will exhibit increased enthusiasm for learning and derive greater enjoyment from the subject, thereby enhancing their comprehension of it. They will actively pursue an objective whenever they establish a goal, experiencing joy, love, fulfillment, and happiness. The aforementioned variables demonstrate several forms of motivation, their functions, and how educators can leverage the potential and beneficial impacts of motivation to augment students’ knowledge and attain exceptional educational outcomes.
