The foundation of every state is the education of the youth. The failure of education represents the failure of society. The failure of education represents the inability of society to adequately prepare the young for their inevitable ascendancy into leadership roles in the future. The failure of education represents the inability of our society to properly perpetuate itself through the succeeding generations
As Abad (2005) puts it, education is not seen as a miracle to cure or a magical formula opening the door in a world in which all ideals will be attained, but is one of the principal means available to foster a deeper and more harmonious form of human development and thereby to improve the humankind of one’s nation. The teachers are the front liners in the classroom of every school It is necessary to look at what assistance could be extended to them by the school administrators to become efficient and effective in delivering quality education to the learners. As such the role of the school administrators should be scrutinized.
Researches within the last 20 years have found evidence to support that humans in confronting the many challenges that future holds in store, sees education as an indispensable asset in the attempt to attain the ideals of peace, freedom and social justice. Humans learn through self-exploration, collaboration and conditioning. In effect research suggests that there are learning variations within each individual. We each have the capacity to learn in a multitude of ways. In the same manner, these are methods and orientations to learning that are more appropriate when determined by purpose, situation and needs of individuals. This affirms the belief that education has a fundamental role to play in personal and social development.
The role of the school administrators in the country’s school system is being redefined in the 21st century. Perceptions about the need for a new leadership model focused on the relevance of the management practices and skills in the 21st century, because educators at present are continuously searching for more effective and efficient ways of school management. School managers have to deal with these changes to master skills in the educational climate.
Management skills are an important component of the quality of an educational leader and manager competencies. Her4e is nothing more interesting than watching school administrators adroitly draw the faculty, community and students attention, sway the undesired and encouraged the school’s critics to agree on a point and magnanimously accept their eager enthusiasm to do what is requested of them for the welfare of the school.
From the study of Roxas (2010) she defined Management as the act of getting people together to accomplish desired goals and objectives using available resources efficiently and effectively, while management practices refers to the methods, techniques, strategies and processes utilized in managing the school, community in terms of goal-setting, planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
Leaders in the present century should be highly aware of their special skills. They must be eager to connect a broad range of people and ideas. They must constantly and enthusiastically seek to build communication with both people in the community and in the school. The role of the school administrators goes beyond the walls of the school. Consistent with the schools vision and mission, the school head must take an active role in building and maintaining partnership with pupils, teachers, parents and the community. Without a doubt, the challenge is clear, the school heads are agents of change. They must evaluate their management skills and practices.
As Marx (2006) puts it, “school heads must realize that by its very nature, education is not just for today. Teachers, parents, especially the school principals will be the ones who must play major role in determining if the students and teachers will have a future, if so, which kind of future will it be?”
It is with this context, that these issues motivated her to write this article that will possibly improve the management skills and practices of the school administrators. for an improved educational management.
