A curriculum provides a measurable plan and structure for a school in order to achieve quality education. That is why the educational managers rely so much on it in order to provide direction in all the undertakings which will shape the educational clientele…the learners.
A good and effective curriculum is one significant part of education. It provides the learning experiences, the subjects and the standards that the learners must meet in order to work for their development and betterment.
On the part of the school administrator, curriculum must achieve national standards of academic performance. In addition, curriculum must assure that a school is teaching relevant materials to the diverse learners.
On the other hand, on the part of the teachers the curriculum must contain all the necessary skills to be taught to the pupils. The curriculum will be their instrument in achieving the educational objectives which are aligned to the needs of the child, creating him/her with a strong foundation.
On the part of the learners, curriculum is significant because it sets the lists of subjects they need to study thus helping them to be systematic and organized in honing their skills and abilities.
On the part of the parents and other stakeholders, curriculum is the assurance that the child is receiving the best and most appropriate education he/she deserves to have. To them, curriculum is very essential in assuring the future of the child.
It is right to say that curriculum is truly a meaningful and purposeful component of education. It draws a clear direction for the educational administrators. It assists the teaching to perform their tasks thus attaining better educational outcomes. It yields academic skills, teaches the importance of responsibility, hard work and responsible citizenship on the side of the learner.
The school managers, teachers, parents and community members must join forces in the implementation and realization of the curriculum in order for a child to accomplish better academic performance, imbibe good character and instill proper behavior consequently making him/her as a real educated individual.
