Absenteeism or non-attendance student is one of the most problems of all teachers in every school. The first step in correcting this problem is to determine the reason behind this…. We can help our student not to become lazy and it will help him or her to appreciate school.
For teachers, they have to set clear boundaries and stick to it. The school policy and the room policy may apply to solve the issue. Student having a hard time to adjust their self during weekdays to go to their respective school will be able to plan their weeks and they will have a good study habits. Another thing is make an updated attendance sheet for you to be able to check your student from time to time. You can also group your student and let the leader check their attendance in that day. If the student takes it as a hobby, make a home visitation as soon as possible.
For parents, track your children progress. Spend a short drop by in their school; make an open communication with their adviser, always attend the homeroom parent teacher meeting, ask question about your child’s performance, behaviour in their class. In doing this it motivates the child to be in school most of their weekdays and avoid absenteeism and cutting classes.
Moreover, set a reasonable punishment for the student who love being absent in the class during weekdays that get results. Make him or her as cleaners in the whole day or make him or her as jack and jill in cleaning the comfort room and explain to them the punishment all about.
Lastly, reward your student good attendance record. Positive reinforcement carries a strong message to your student. Give them a colourful perfect attendance certificate or treat them in your canteen for a small snack. Student that know and feel the love and care of their teachers it make them to strive harder in their study.
