For teaching to be at its best, there must be an atmosphere that is conducive to learning. This requires a well-trained teacher, a well-lighted and well-ventilated classroom and an environment that is free from any obstruction to learn such as behavioral problems among pupils. These behavioral problems make the teaching process really a hard work on the part of the teacher. Sometimes, classroom discussion is interrupted by behavioral problems of the pupils. It is therefore necessary that every teacher formulates a discipline plan that is appropriate to his class to prevent such problems. He can do this on the first week of the school year. The teacher must set rules that his pupils must follow the first time they are given. These rules, however must conform with the school rules and regulations. He must discuss these rules to his pupils and tell them that there is a consequence for any misbehavior. Inform the pupils of the possible negative consequences that he will use in case someone misbehaves. But he must be sure that these consequences will not be harmful on the part of the pupil. However, in case someone behaves properly, he will be given reward. Keep in mind that disciplinary actions can stop inappropriate behavior, but rewards or positive reinforcement can change behavior. The teacher must remember that the effectiveness of such plan relies on the consistency in giving the disciplinary action or reward to the child. The rules must be evaluated to determine their effectiveness. In case it is not working, the teacher must do necessary changes until he got the best or the most effective plan. When this happens, classroom discussion will be peaceful and the teacher can do teaching at its best!
