Everyday we are confronted with issues to be decided concerning matters generally about the school and its manpower. In the family, school, friends, with our co-workers are also areas wherein decision-making is very much needed. As soon as we open our eyes, after a night’s sleep, we ask ourselves about what food to prepare, what dress and shoes to wear, and a lot more of issues that need to be resolved through decisions.
There’s an old legend which tells of a powerful genius who promised a beautiful girl a gift of rare value if she would go through a field of corn and select the biggest and repest ear she could find. She must do this as she was walking along , and she was not allowed to turn her back. The value of the gift would be in proportion to the size and perfection of the ear.
She started out, and passed by many fine ears. But she was so anxious to find the biggest and the best. She kept on, going without plucking any. Then the ears became smaller and smaller as she goes by, until they became so stunted that she was ashamed to go backward, she came out of the cornfield without anything in her hand.
Because she could not make up her mind, she missed everything. The mentioned legend made clear about the importance of decision making. You might missed the reward like what happened to the beautiful lady in the legend.
By way of this legend, decision-making is indispensable. It has a powerful force that will enable us to move and face the reality, that will either make or mar us.
Decision-making is an integral part of the management styles of the school administrator and the everyday performance of the teachers. Decision-making involves teamwork, the ideas given by teachers are appropriate it could possibly be utilized by the management.
In making decisions, either for teachers welfare or students; fairness and justice must be exercised. Another point to remember is that your decisions must be based on facts rather that emotions, and before giving the decision, one must give time to assessment and analysis.
