Writing is an invaluable method of communication andf self-expression. Thorugh writing, we are inspiring children to develop skill that serves them creatively, academically and professionally. A teacher must be prepared to explain what pupils should expect and how writing would improve their skills in different subject areas.
Teachers should not use writing as punishment. They should refrain from assigning busywork. What should they do is to encourage children’s natural creativity by avoiding repetitious or boring writing punsihments. In addition, it would be better to make the writing assignments appropriate to the grade 4 pupil can write a thousand word essay. Assignments should simple enough for the child to finish on her own with no help.
Make writing interesting. Allow the children to write about their favorite subjects or about something they would like to learn. Let their assignments teach them to write somthing about themselves. For example, assign an essay about the family where they belong.
Let writing showcase the child’s creativity. You may give them sometime to write poems, play or even written jokes and quotations. These would really enhance their self-esteem.
At some point, one pupils hate writing. And if the teacher asks them to write as punishment, this might cause them to avoid him and the class together. You see, there are many ways to use writing in enhancing the potentials of the learners. It’s just about caring more on child’s emotional well-being than making a point.
