Education must be designed to direct and guide learning, and at the same time evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning process. In this concern, education in the Philippines should be directing learning processes that will enable it to meet worthily its obligations and opportunities. Experts said that the true function of education in a democratic country is to foster growth in the direction of freedom, democracy, tolerance, cooperative living, and to develop among the students a mutual recognition of the welfare of one another.
It can be said, as experts agreed, that education in the Philippines must be education for democracy. Education must develop youths and adults the love for democracy as a way of living. The students and parents should be taught to understand and to live a sound democratic social way of living.
It should be an education for freedom and respect for individual personality. The kind of education designed to train free men, intelligent citizens who are conscious of their responsibility, integrity, dignity and rights, and great social faith. Every mentor must also believe in the dignity and the supreme value of human personality above anything else. The teacher must believe that his democratic ideal is of highest concern.
Education aims in a democracy cannot be accomplished through the system of rigid indoctrination. The real aim of education in a free country is to promote progress to the direction of good social living of the people. Each person must recognize the welfare of one another.
The role of education is vital in any society just like in the Philippines. Education must develop the people to live in democratic society. Everyone must understand and live in a sound democratic social way. Education must direct learning process to be able to achieve the goals in the society.
