Parents play major roles in the academic performance of their children. It is a fact that they are supposed to be the first teachers at home giving first lessons and experiences that will build the child’s foundation of knowledge. They must be there to attend to their needs. Then, what if parents had no choice but to grab the chance of working outside the country to find a greener pasture? Nowadays, working in foreign land is the ultimate dream of every head of the family because of the greater chances or opportunities to become successful due to higher salaries and benefits being offered.

Most of the students who lose interest in their studies, delinquent and become problems of the school are often found to have OFW parents. This is a reality and so parental guidance is important and has a great impact in the students’ academic performance. Parents’ idea to work abroad is a tough decision and their ultimate purpose is to give a better future for the family even to the point of sacrificing themselves. They knew that they will be separated from their family and would  miss several important occasions or family gatherings.

When both parents are working outside the country, children can hardly cope up with the situations they are into. They feel alone, hopeless, intimidated and considered themselves less important because of the absence of parental roles and these would also result into poor academic performance.
