The old performance appraisal and the present Competency-Based Performance Appraisal System for Teachers (CB-PAST) both have space for us to rate ourselves according to our performance behavior. Focusing on item number 4 of the (CB-PAST), “Maintains appropriate appearance and decorum at all times” made me reflect the importance of our personal appearance in our day to day activities.

First appearances are important. They speak volumes before we even open our mouth. Even if most of us find it hard to have the budget to purchase the label suits and accessories, we should make sure that our uniforms are clean, well-pressed and that our shoes are equally smart.

Not just only great imitators, children are also considered as our finest critics. Their observations are expected to last as they get older. They never fail to mention the things that their teacher does.

Think back to your own school days, which staff do you remember having bad breath, greasy hair and BO? Do you want to be remembered with them?

Our personal appearance does matter. Proper grooming is definitely a must for teachers. Teachers uphold the highest possible standards by making the best preparation for his calling that is why he should appear as a professional with high moral value. It doesn’t need to be costly. It’s just a matter of assuring that you look respectable.
