Don’t Let The Rain get You Down

Rainy days and Mondays, as the lyric of a popular song goes, always get me down.  Monday blues may be blown away by a slight change of feeling or attitude, but rain triggered by typhoons or the tropical monsoon can literally get us down if we’re less careful.                So in days such as these…

Rainy days and Mondays, as the lyric of a popular song goes, always get me down.  Monday blues may be blown away by a slight change of feeling or attitude, but rain triggered by typhoons or the tropical monsoon can literally get us down if we’re less careful.

So in days such as these the counsel of the wise to stay dry serves us well.  I remember my grandmother used to say, “When you’re caught by the rain, change your clothing right away, or at least cover your back with your handkerchief or small towel”.

Many times common colds and flu are caused by viruses, but if one’s defense mechanism is weak it can progress to bacterial infection.  We can avoid such diseases by following these simple ways:

  • Avoid close contact with a family member who has viral infection
  • Clean surroundings where rats, cockroaches, and mosquitoes thrive.
  • Always have a clean water supply.
  • Do not expose food or utensils to flies.
  • Avoid wading on flooded areas.
  • Use hand and feet protection when cleaning drainage.
  • Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures (too cold, too hot). Give time to cool off before entering cold room if coming from hot environment.
  • Avoid crowded areas.
  • Get Vaccinated with flu and pneumonia vaccines.

Whatever the circumstance we face, whatever disease or addiction we try to combat—it may be alcohol, smoking, drug or the aforementioned diseases— one thing remains constant.  Prevention, as another doctor says, is not only better than cure, it is the cure.
