We can’t prevent phenomenal catastrophe to happen but we can protect ourselves unharmed if we are prepared. The Department of Education (DepEd) is alarmed by the tragedies that had happened to different places like Bohol, Leyte, Samar and other places devastated by natural calamities. So implementing disaster preparedness like earthquake drill simultaneously in schools is a must.
LIMAY National High School conducted its earthquake drill on July 02, 2014.This is in response to the call of the national disaster coordinating council which spearheaded a nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill.
We acted according to the steps of conducting an earthquake drill First students and staff are alerted by a loud warning device. That was a pre-arranged signal known by all so that response will be immediate.
Next, everyone headed for cover-student got under their desks tables or chairs, if there was no cover students were told to crouch and try to protect his/her head.
After remaining in each respective safe-place until the shaking stops, students and teachers evacuated the school building. The evacuation proceeded though predetermined safe routes and the evacuees gathered in a safe area, from the buildings.
At the assembly point the evacuees were grouped in order. Then, the teachers checked if everyone was present though head count.
The drill was a successful one, everyone went smoothly because students and teachers knew already what to do based on the previous experiences. Nobody was hurt due to a systematic procedure and the cooperative school populace it is successful the school is planning to do it in a quarterly basis and it falls in the month of January. Moreover, we are on the planning stage and aim high to make it better, if not perfect.
