Since the earliest time, humanity has bestowed a vast importance to education, of learning. Though during those times, education may only be perceived, as adapting to their surroundings, and a means to survive and preserve their existence. Through the historical records and its adaptations, we bear witness as to how the ancient people had educated their youth and made it possible for the modern times to evolve. From being the unsophisticated cavemen, the human population now boasts of being the civilized and discerning inhabitant of the earth. Such transition, the change in human existence and in the world we live in is caused by learning through education.
Without the knowledge and skills, without the education of those who made them possible, we may not be able to enjoy all the modern things life has to offer. We may not be spending our time browsing Facebook nor anxiously trying to win games we have downloaded from Apps store. And it would have been impossible to speedily talk and see our family and friends, if mobile phones and fast transportation were not created. Probably, some of those were invented out of necessity, but still we have them now because of the sufficient education which enabled to produce or create them.
However, an education put in the wrong perspective and given unjust value could also cause great destruction as much as it could build lives. Thus, in acquiring education, one should exercise wisdom and caution so as not to waiver in the ultimate goal of education-that is to change our lives and others’ lives for the better.
We may have attended school and completed our course with the sole objective of obtaining a ticket for a brighter future. And we may be wondering why our nation or the world at large, is plagued with numerous conflicts and economic problems. Perhaps, if each and every one of us will put things in their right perspective, use our education in more productive ways, rather than forever pulling each other down, our world will be a much better place to live in.
After all, education is a sum of all the knowledge and skills we have learned through the teachings, trainings and our observations, of other people, together with our own experiences. But the foremost measure of our education, is how we discern the things we learn, how much we value them, and more importantly, how we utilize them for the greater benefit of ourselves and of others.
Through education, we are given the gift of power-the power to change. Let’s use it wisely and benevolently.Remember, it is said that with power comes responsibility.
