Corona Virus brought a lot of changes worldwide specially on the education sector. In the Philippines, Department of Education (DepEd) faced a lot of challenges to cater the needs of the learners for SY2020-2021.

Varied learning delivery modalities were used instead because face to face interactions were not permitted by the Department of Health. Online learning modality, blended modality, printed-modular modality and modular-digital were some of the terms that learners and parents have to get acquainted to on the beginning of the school year.

Parents and guardians were hesitant in enrolling their kids at first but as days turned into months, months into the entire school year, we can say that, it is really possible. Challenges for sure were met along the way but everyone was able to endure them. Whatever their hesitations were in the past were kissed goodbye as everyone experienced the new normal set up of the teaching-learning process.

Weak internet connection was one of complaints during the conduct of the online classes while independent learning was tremendously difficult for some which led them to the non-submission or late submission of their modules or activity sheets. Moreover, parents and guardians are unavailable during the distribution and retrieval of modules which was another concern embattled by the class advisers. Regardless of the modality preferred by the learner, there is always the downside of it. Solutions were applied to eradicate the problem but there are still problems which are very persistent. These problems are to be anticipated in the second year of this new set-up.

This coming school year, 2021-2022, face to face interactions are still not permissible. School heads and administrators, teaching and non-teaching staff are already preparing the Learning Continuity Plan (LCP) which will address all these existing challenges and the anticipated problems in the future.

Parents and guardians should also be involved in the education of their kids for the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process. Most importantly, kids should really be apt for the challenge for they are the ones directly involved.
