Education is define as the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life. Through education, we gain knowledge and it widens our view over the world. It also assists us in inventing equipment and devices resulting in a high technology. Everything that we create is because of the knowledge we gain from our education. It helps us to adapt in changing world.
Education is very important for every Filipino. Filipino parents believe that education is the only treasure that they can give to their children and it cannot be stolen. They are doing their best to give a good education to their children. Some of them leave the country so they can support the education of their children. But sometimes, some of the children don’t realize the hardship or sacrifices of their parents. Instead of studying or going to school, they are going to the malls or computer shops to play games. They are lazy doing their homework and projects but they have time for smoking and sometimes drugs. They don’t value the sacrifices of their parents and the importance of education. Lack of interest of the students hinders them to have a good education.
Some of the parents cannot support the education of their children even they are doing their best. Their income is very low to sustain the needs of their family. I believe poverty hinders the children to access the education they need for the future. Because of poverty, some of the children work in an early age to help their family. They don’t have time and energy to study and their school marks become very low. Sometimes, they choose to stop their schooling. Even the government provides programs to support the poor families and the educational system, it is not enough for them because they also need food, clothes and shelter.
Another problem is the distance of the school from their house. Some of the students need to walk one hour or more just to go to school. It also causes the children to stop from school. Illnesses and disabilities also hinder some children going to school. They are shy or not confident enough to go to school. They are afraid to be teased. We don’t have the budget provide the needs of disabled students like the learning materials or facilities. Some students are very ill to go to school and they cannot cope up with the lessons they missed.
Education is important in our life. It plays a vital role in our life. It can lead or bring us to our goals and dreams. It gives us lots of knowledge in all aspects. The more knowledge we have, the more we grow. It will help us to think creatively and ambitiously. We also live in a competitive world, so we need to be well-equipped with knowledge and skills. Through education, we can enhance our knowledge and skills. We can find jobs that can compensate our needs and wants. Employers tend to offer higher salaries to employees that have a good education. There are a lot of career opportunities if you are educated. It will be our passport for a better life. We will not be left out. We can face the challenges in our lives. Education can build a character of a person. It promotes good habits and values. It can change your perspectives in life. It will teach you how to communicate well to people. If you have a good education, you can make good decisions in life. It will help you to determine what is good and what is bad for you.
I hope the students realize the importance of education. Those problems or hindrances should be their motivation to finish their studies. If they want to achieve something, they need to work hard for it. Aristotle once said, “The roots of education is bitter, but the fruit is sweet.” Getting good grades or finishing their studies is hard to achieve but in the end all their hard work will pay. The obstacles that there are facing in achieving a good education should strengthen their beliefs that they can do everything to reach their goals and dreams. It is not only the job that they can get but if they are educated, they will earn respect. The government helps the children to get a good education but they should be responsible for getting the education they need. Teachers and parents should also motivate the children in their studies. They should explain the importance of education and help them to focus in their studies. They are responsible in molding the attitude and perception of the children about education. Encouragement from them will help a lot. If parents, teachers, and the people who love them should encourage and support them, they can be motivated to study hard and eventually finish their studies.
