With the products of Philippine education dotting the world map, it is believable that Philippine professionals can compete with the best in the international community. It is a manifestation that the standard of our education is still at par with other countries, although doubts have been raised regarding this.
However, the state of education is still challenged by the strength of the foundation and the core values that graduates have to acquire to meet the increasing demand of a technologically equipped working environment. The need to understand the norms of the international community is imperative upon someone who trains his eyes to an employment overseas.
But the development needs to start at a young age; development has to start at home. The role of the parents is at focus here. The initial development of human potentials rests on the shoulders of the parents. Parents need to show faith in their children and believe that they can outdo their self-set goals. And what better way to prepare them than to show goodness in everything that we do. Parents have to be good models to their children. What they show is what is embedded in the minds of the offsprings. The key: walk the talk.
The school is another factor in the development of human potentials. Teachers must always bear in mind that more than knowledge, they have to impart right attitudes and values which will speak of the quality of their products. Graduates may not be academically superior but if they are equipped with the right attitude and perceptions in life, they are regarded as assets in the workplace and the community. Academic supremacy is not always a measure of one’s readiness to face the challenges of the world. A value-laden individual is important in this dog-eat-dog society. The key: values orientation.
The total development of an individual is mirrored in the community. How he has been molded at home and at school will definitely show once he intermingles with the society he lives in. Society becomes the showcase of how an individual is molded. It is the real avenue where one is gauged and judged. Their potentials as an individual is largely seen as the ultimate preparation of his totality as a person.
