There is growing aspiration of administrators, teachers and learners to use technology in the classroom. In every school campus today, it is normal scene to see them using their cellphones, tablet, PC’s and laptop computers surfing the Internet, updating social network sites or downloading music and videos. These are some of the effects of technology as our society is clearly moving to a more technical and computerized age. Although some can see the benefits that come from integrating technology in the classroom, most veteran teachers are from a much different, less connected generation than the pupils they are working with; thus making the pupils more technologically savvy than their mentors .
Today’s technology have already taken the place of traditional methods like going to the library for research, hand-written essays and reports . Most of these are now done electronically using e-books. Learners and teachers are now enjoying the ease of access of a wide variety of information readily available in just one click of a mouse. The learners of the future are now prioritizing the use of available of technology (especially the internet) just to have something to show to their teachers. They can just look up the answers to questions and copy them word for word. Instead of learning the concepts and ideas, they are simply repeating the information. They no longer actually learn the material when they do this. They are missing out the details and the essence of learning process, creating the so-called “lazy brain”; which in turn changes the learning patterns of the brain. Some also say that most of these technological advancements can also lessen learners’ concentration in classrooms.
The profound effect of technology in education can equip learners with skills that will be necessary in the future. However, this does not mean that proven successful instruction strategies will be replaced and forgotten. As technology is successfully implemented in the classroom, learners and teachers alike will be able to receive comprehensive and modern educations that they could benefit from in the future. Their generation will receive higher degree of education that will be more suited to them to be more competitive, as this is where our society is moving in. Although many are still struggling and facing hurdles in attaining the needed resources for funding and training to streamline technology in every classroom, education is somehow on a good path in getting there.
