Computers, machineries, appliances and smartphones are the first things that come into our minds when we hear the word ‘technology’. According to Meriam Webster dictionary, technology is the application of scientific knowledge for practical purpose especially in particular area or simply application of science. Meanwhile, educational technology is using technology to improve the process of teaching and learning. It is a combination of computer hardware, software and educational theory and practice to facilitate learning.

Education rapidly changes from time to time—from traditional chalk and board to Manila paper and markers to PowerPoint and audio-visual presentations. And this is what technology does to our education system. This allows the students with easy-access-information because everything is just one-click away. It provides vast opportunities to practice what they learn and deepen their understanding of difficult concepts.

In this time of pandemic, technology has been the aide of teachers to provide a quality education. Massive printing of self-learning modules is needed. Different video conferencing tools such as Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams are emerged and utilized to reach those learners during online classes. Google classroom and Microsoft Teams become their virtual classroom. Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Publisher and Excel are used to produce presentations and outputs to provide quality education. Everything goes online. Teachers undergone trainings about upskilling digital and computer literacy. These are just some of the many educational technologies that we have. It is possible that in the near future, more technology will emerge and develop.

It is true that we should adapt the 21st century educational technology for our 21st century learners. We should not be left behind. It is for the better. It is for our future.
