Fundamentally  computers  are designed to be ‘problem solving ‘ machines and therefore their use has to be problem –  driven. This has special relevance in education. They need to be used  to address problems which occur in the regular curriculum . When people use computers to help them complete tasks which they regard as problems, then they are likely to have a more positive attitude towards the use of computers, and are likely to look for further tasks which can be completed using a computer. The task is made more difficult or less satisfying then they are less  likely  to use computers in the future. If The computer is a problem solving machine then it must be applied to typical school problems such as those concerning student learning, teacher instruction, school administration, and so on.” Where are the problems?” and   “Can computer help solve these problems ? “

Unique Instructional  Characteristics.  It is generally agreed that in education we need  to utilize the unique instructional characteristics of computers. There are four distinct characteristics of computers in the classroom; logical programming, interactive control , graphics and  and audio output and information processing. Logical programming, its educational implication can customized instruction  for individual learners, while interactive control, the interactive environment it is the learners that  control learning ,on the other hand graphics and audio are motivating factor ,present concrete learning activity and multiple modes of presentation. And the information Processing provide students the tools to investigate ,track  learner performance and allow teacher to structure and sequence learning.

The use of computer as a support to teaching and learning can provide a number of advantages to both students and teachers in the classroom  setting . The computer is unlike any other technology available for use in the classroom. In providing instruction it can accept responses from students gauge prior learning and preferred learning styles and base further instruction on this information. It has a memory  that enables it to record a student’s responses to provide information for the teacher concerning the student’s progress. If  it is not enough , the computer provides a variety of presentation and interaction modes that can stimulate and maintain student interest and motivation. As a tool, the computer provides the learners with the means to perform tedious and repetitive tasks quickly and accurately.  It provides the opportunity to increase knowledge and to develop higher learning skills in an interactive fashion.
