Homework is an extension of the classroom. It is an extended practice, advance preparation for the next lesson which helps cultivate good study habits and serves as an assessment tool. Homework leads to mastery of learning.
Functions of Homework
- The homework is the last bit not the least part of a lesson plan. It is our way of extending the school day by providing pupils/students the opportunity to refine and extend their knowledge. This is done through practice and advance preparation or reading.
- Research has proven that for every 30 minutes of ‘additional homework’ a student does per night, his/her overall grade point average (GPA) increases about half a point.
- Homework communicates to the child that learning takes work at home as well as in school thus strengthening the home and the school connection and the parent-teacher partnership for the education of child.
- For us, teachers, it is a tool toassess the assess the learning needs of learners with multiple intelligences and varied learning styles by way of creative subject requirements and authentic assessment techniques.
A good homework is differentiated in terms of level ad purposes. It enhances the facilitative role of parents and observe school policy on homework that has a relevant purpose understood by all. It is likewise evaluated and commented on and comments are fed back to the learners and parents.
