Classroom teachers who are aspiring to be a school administrator in the new future must be aware that education is majestic and powerful. It touches every aspect of human endeavor. However, many school leaders at present face many challenges and concerns in their school. As Bennis puts it “too many of today’s organization are over-managed and underled”.
Many classroom teachers who are planning to be a school administrator, must stop awhile and ponder upon the guides suggested by Drucker and Marciarillo as presented by Cunanan (2012)
According to these two leadership gurus, there are some factors to be considered, if one is aiming to be an effective leader.
First, Managing Time. Time Management is foundational to getting the right things done. Improving your effectiveness begins by finding out where your time goes and then taking steps to eliminate those tasks that waste your time and the time of others.
Second, Focus your efforts on making contributions. Once you have eliminated time wasters. You should give priority to those tasks that make the greatest contribution to your organization, the DepEd.
Third, Make your strengths productive. Focus on your strengths and your subordinates strengths. You must take steps to develop your talents and the talents of others. Your staffing and appraisal must be made based upon what a person can do, based upon his/her strengths not on weaknesses.
Fourth Plan and motivate your subordinates in doing an activity or any project.
Fifth is Decision-Making. Effective school administrators make effective decisions. He/She first defines a problem correctly and establishes correct specifications for an effective decision.
Remember, to be an effective manager in the future, apply these guides. Practice makes perfect.
